BROCKHAMPTON is a hip hop musical collective formed in San Marcos, Texas in 2015. They formed partially through an online forum called “KanyeToThe”, and prefer to be labeled as a boy band. I find them unique in the way they consider everybody that’s part of the operation (from the musicians to the web designer) a member of the band.
I discovered Brockhampton when I was planning on going to Bonnaroo in 2018 (I ended up not going, but I still discovered a lot of awesome music in the lead up) and they were in the lineup. I also remember some friends saying they were pretty good. I’m a sucker for rap groups. I enjoy the diversity it brings in each rapper’s style and flow. Speaking of diverse, that’s the best word I could use to describe Brockhampton. Each vocalist has a distinct style and they play off each other well. They recently went through a significant change in kicking out rapper Ameer Vann after allegations of sexual misconduct. Ameer was a pivotal member of the group to the point that his face is on the cover of their first three albums. They took some time to regroup and eventually released their latest album iridescence in September of 2018. I like pretty much every song on that album and highly recommend it. In fact, SAN MARCOS might be my favorite song by them.
