cleopatrick is a guitar and drum duo from Cobourg, Ontario, Canada that started in 2015 and consists of childhood friends Luke Gruntz and Ian Fraser. They often draw comparisons to bands like Highly Suspect and Catfish and the Bottlemen due to their hard rock edge and honest lyrics. Instrumentally, I would compare them to Royal Blood. Especially in how Luke approaches the electric guitar. Luke uses pitch shifting effects to give himself a deeper tone and solos in a similar fashion to Mike Kerr of Royal Blood. Of course, Mike is doing this with a bass, but I think My point still stands. All of this gives cleopatrick a distinct and refreshing sound.
I first heard their song “hometown” on an alternative station on Google Play Music. I found the lyrics relatable and Luke’s style of singing both powerful at times and honest. I could tell he wrote these lyrics and they meant something to him. They currently only have two EPs out (“14” and “the boys”) that amounts to about one album worth of songs, and I enjoyed every one of them.
I hope to see an album from them in the near future, and I would love to see them live as well. Check out their video for “hometown” below. Also, be sure to check out the rest of their music.
