Wolf Alice is a band from London, England that started as just Ellie and Joff making acoustic folkish music before adding an electric element in the form of two new band members and started creating the indie, grungy, alternative blend that they are known for now.
I discovered this band in a pretty weird way. I was listening to the radio and their song “Don’t Delete the Kisses” came on. This is quite a coincidence to begin with as the song was their second single off their newest album and it barely charted in the UK let alone the US. Wolf Alice is a rock band. “Don’t Delete the Kisses” is NOT a rock song. It’s a slow, synth-heavy, dream-pop love song. This song was outside of the bands wheelhouse and it wasn’t exactly the type of music I typically listen to either. Long story short, I didn’t like the song at first. Then one day, I was surfing YouTube and went on binge of watching NPR Tiny Desk concerts (They’re excellent by the way) and stumbled across Wolf Alice’s set. They were supporting their first album and even though it was an acoustic set, I could tell the music was heavy. Much heavier then “Don’t Delete the Kisses” would lead me to believe.
So here I am. I actually like “Don’t Delete the Kisses” as it shows the band has the ability to go outside of their roots and make great music in a completely different way. I love this band so much and they might be my favorite find all year and now they are my first Artist Spotlight
