WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? is the debut album of rising star pap artist Billie Eilish. She’s gaining so much popularity right now that I almost didn’t feel like covering this album as it kinda went against what this blog is about, finding music that is sometimes hard to find. Nevertheless, here I am. She broke the Apple Music pre-save record with 800,000 pre-saves and I’m still gonna cover them album because I think it’s that good.
Keep in mind that the album came out an hour and a half ago at the time of me writing this so this isn’t going to be a full Album Spotlight. Therefore, I’m debuting a new category: First Impressions. Where I shall give my very uneducated opinions of albums that I’m super hyped about and decide whether they meet my expectations or not. That’s right. This will be the only series where I might give a negative opinion…..but not tonight.
This album exceeded my expectations. I figured I may like one or two more songs outside of the singles but I ended up liking the whole album. After the goofy intro skit-type deal in the beginning of the album, you are immediately meet with the fast-paced, almost Muse-like bassline of the song “bad guy.” At this point, I thought “This is it. This is the other song I’m gonna like.” Then “xanny” came next and that might be my favorite song on the album. The song is also the most bass-heavy on the album. Therefore, if you thought “you should see me in a crown” was too bass-heavy, you might not appreciate “xanny” as much as I did.
I don’t want to spoil the whole album for you so I’ll leave you with the only forty-five seconds I didn’t like on the album. That’s the intro to the song “8” which features some baby-singing by Billie that I just find a little annoying. The rest of the song is fine but I can’t stand that intro.
