“My Cheating Heart” is the debut single from Love Fame Tragedy. Love Fame Tragedy is Matthew Murphy, better known as the lead singer and guitarist of The Wombats.
If you like The Wombats you’ll probably like this song. It’s lead by a guitar riff from Murph that doesn’t stray too far from the style of riff he’s played for the Wombats. The only thing really missing is the real drums that accompany most Wombat songs. THose drums are replaced by a computer beat that still manages to sound like something you’d hear on a Wombats record. The song also features backup vocals from Maddi Jean Waterhouse throughout the whole song. Speaking of singing, the lyrical content and pacing are also Wombatesque.
This all might sound like a criticism, but I like the song. If anything, I think it shows just how essential Murph is to The Wombats’ sound. I look at it as a slightly less rock version of a Wombats song. Who knows? Maybe the rest of the album will be more different.
